(London, Ontario) – On Saturday night, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (0-13) fell to the CCAA #5 ranked Mohawk Mountaineers (10-2) by a final score of 78-72.

Fanshawe started the game on a 5-0 run, with Mohawk starting the game out ice cold, missing their first 12 shots from the field.   Midway through the first quarter, Fanshawe had held the Mountaineers to just two points and led 8-2. Fanshawe extended the lead as Connor Therrien hit a big three point basket in transition to put the Falcons up by double digits. The Falcons led 18-10 at the end of the first quarter.  Mohawk came out with more energy to start the second and cut the lead to six but Fanshawe's Jemaul Jones hit back to back layups and with six minutes left in the half, the lead was back to double digits. The Mountaineers started to connect on some of their outside shots and with two minutes left in the half, a runner by Patrick Lavarone tied the game at 27.  Therrien and Jones came back with a pair of three pointers to put the Falcons back up six.  At the half, Fanshawe led the game 38-32.  Jones led the Falcons with 13 points and 4 rebounds.

Fanshawe started the third quarter right where they left off with a three point basket by Frank Ngakoutou to push the lead to nine.  Both teams traded baskets and with five minutes left in the third, the Falcons were up by eight, 52-44.  Unfortunately, the Falcons were in the penalty with four minutes left and Mohawk took advantage.  The Mountaineers went on a 10-2 run and tied the game before Therrien yet again hit a clutch three pointer to put Fanshawe back on top.  At the end of the third quarter, the Falcons led 59-56.  Mohawk started the fourth with a basket but Jones came right back for Fanshawe with two mid-range jumpers, giving the Falcons the 63-58 lead.  Halfway through the final quarter, the Falcons led the Mountaineers 67-64.  Mohawk scored the next six points and took a 70-67 lead, forcing the Falcons to take a timeout with three minutes remaining. Down the stretch the Mountaineers hit enough free throws to seal the game and win by a final score of 78-72.
