(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (10-3) defeated the CCAA #12 ranked Niagara Knights (9-4) in three straight sets 25-15, 25-20 and 25-22.  Fanshawe is now alone in second place in the OCAA West Division.

In the first set, the Falcons jumped out to a 7-2 lead behind some tough serving by Fanshawe's setter Darian Gropp.  The Knights chipped away and were within three but a huge backrow attack by Fanshawe's Carley Nugteren forced Niagara to take a timeout.  Out of the break, unforced errors by the Knights put the Falcons back up by five. The Falcons pulled away to finish the set on a 9-3 run and win 25-15. Fanshawe's Nugteren finished the set with six points.

The Falcons started the second set with four straight aces by Fanshawe's Allysha Couch. Teams traded points back and forth but Fanshawe never gave up their lead and with the Falcons leading 16-10, Niagara took a timeout. Fanshawe came right out and extended their lead to as many as eight and went on to win the set by a final score of 25-20.

Niagara came out with more energy to start the third set and led by four points, 7-3.  Fanshawe battled back and tied the game 8-8 behind a pair of aces by Nugteren.  After a long rally, the Falcons regained the lead 13-12 on a kill by Hunter Medd.  Both teams went point for point until Gropp went back and served an ace to give the Falcons a two point lead, 22-20.  After a Niagara timeout, Gropp went back and served up two more aces, leading the Falcons to the 25-22 win.  Fanshawe would win the match in three straight sets.
