(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (11-4) fell to the Mohawk Mountaineers (6-9) in four sets (25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23).  Fanshawe is in second place in the OCAA West Division.

Hunter Medd started the Falcons off right, with a huge kill from the left side to take first point of the match.  Fanshawe served tough early and Mohawk needed a timeout to regroup.  After being down by as many as five, Mohawk battled back on some unforced errors by the Falcons and eventually took the lead 16-15.  With the Mountaineers up by two, 24-22, Fanshawe's Renee McCormick hit a quick middle attack to close the gap to one but another error by the Falcons gave Mohawk the set, 25-23.

In the second, Mohawk continued to keep pace with the Falcons and led 6-4 before Fanshawe's Carley Nugteren took over with four straight kills, giving Fanshawe the 8-6 lead.  After another point for the Falcons, Mohawk took their first timeout of the set. Again, the Mountaineers came back, eventually taking the lead 13-12. With Mohawk leading 21-18, Fanshawe took their final timeout of the set but Mohawk pulled away, scoring the next four points and taking the set 25-18.

Mohawk jumped out to a 6-3 lead behind a number of short tips into the middle of the court.  Fanshawe's Kristen Bond brought the team back with three consecutive kills to give the Falcons their first lead of the set, 8-7. After a pair of unforced errors, Mohawk took their second timeout of the set, down 14-10.  Mohawk made a run and were within two, 24-22, but a missed serve by the Mountaineers gave the Falcons the set, 25-22.

The score was tight to start the fourth, with the first two point lead of the set not coming until a Fanshawe ace gave the Falcons a 7-5 lead. The game remained close until Fanshawe's Medd served four straight, forcing Mohawk into a timeout.  After the timeout, Medd served another ace, giving the Falcons their largest lead of the set, 18-12. Again Mohawk made a push behind some tough serving and came all the way back to within one, 23-22.  After the Falcons called a timeout, a pair of Fanshawe hitting errors gave the Mountaineers the lead 24-23, forcing Fanshawe to use their final timeout.  Unfortunately for the Falcons, another hitting error gave Mohawk the set, by a final score of 25-23.
