Game Recap
October 15, 2016

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Men's Baseball team (11-7) defeated the Seneca Sting (5-15) in both games of their doubleheader by scores of 10-0 (6 innings) and 2-1.  Fanshawe is currently tied for third place in the OCAA Baseball standings.  The Falcons have secured a spot in the OCAA Provincial Championship on Oct. 20-22 at Humber College.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Fanshawe loaded the bases in the first inning but were unable to score any runs.  In the second, the Falcons were very patient at the plate and scored four runs on just three hits to take a 4-0 lead heading to the third.  Fanshawe's pitcher Kyle Zimmer (3-1) was dealing, giving up just two hits through the first four innings.  The Falcons tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.  In the fifth, Fanshawe's Robert Doyle hit a long double to left centre field to score two more runs and extend the Falcons lead to seven.  Fanshawe would score three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, winning the game 10-0 in six innings.  Zimmer would get the complete game win.

In game two, after a scoreless first inning, the Sting scored their first run of the day in the top of the second and took a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom half of the inning, after the first two Falcons reached base, Hayden Regnier hit an RBI single to right field to tie the game.  Doyle and Tyler Wood both led off the third with singles, but a fielder's choice and a double play left them stranded.  After a scoreless fourth, Seneca started the fifth with a leadoff double but was stranded at third base.   In a pitcher's duel, neither team had a runner past first base since the fifth inning until a leadoff single by Fanshawe's Regnier in the bottom of the seventh was moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Two batters later, Fanshawe's Doyle hit a double to right centre field and the Falcons walked off and won the game 2-1.  Corey Boehmer (2-1) would be the winning pitcher for the Falcons.

Fanshawe returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, October 16, back at Labatt Park for their final home game of the season to take on the George Brown Huskies (1-15).  The games are at 1pm and 3pm.
