(London, Ontario) – On Friday night, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (5-3) defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-3) by a final score of 100-92. The Falcons are tied for the most wins in the OCAA West Division with five.
After giving up a free throw on the first possession of the game, Fanshawe scored eight straight points and Mohawk called an early timeout. Mohawk came right back with 10 straight of their own including a pair of three pointers by Matt Elcock. Fanshawe's Connor Therrien knocked down a three pointer to stop the run but Mohawk pulled ahead and led 27-22 at the end of the quarter. Fanshawe started the second on an 8-0 run to take the lead, including a pair of steals followed by layups by Moses Orozco Rayo. The Falcons extended their lead by playing phenomenal defense and transitioning it into layups on the offensive end. Fanshawe went on an amazing 21-2 run and led by 12 with three minutes left in the half. Elcock cut Fanshawe's lead to 10 but a basket by Ben McConkey just before the half put the Falcons back up 12 heading into halftime. A balanced attack by the Falcons had 11 different players on the scoresheet with Salim Bagabe leading the way with eight.
In the third, both teams slowed down the pace of the game. Fanshawe and Mohawk traded baskets back and forth and halfway through the quarter, the Falcons still led by 12 points, 66-54. Elcock took over for the Mountaineers, scoring eight straight points in a matter of 50 seconds, to bring Mohawk within one. With 25 seconds left in the quarter, Mohawk took their first lead since early in the second quarter, 72-71. The Falcons retook the lead early in the fourth but the Mountaineers pounded the ball inside, making a number of baskets right at the rim. After being down by as many as seven, Therrien hit two consecutive three pointers to close the gap to just one with six minutes remaining. With 4:30 left in the game, Orozco-Rayo hit a deep three pointer to give the Falcons the lead again. Fanshawe would hold onto the lead, knocking down all their free throws down the stretch, to win the game by a final score of 100-92. Five Falcons scored in double figures including Orozco-Rayo (18), Therrien (12), Alfred Johnson (12), Felip Pejic (11) and Jake Price (11).

Fanshawe is on the road on Wednesday, November 30, when they head to Niagara College to take on the Knights (4-1).
