Game Recap – Men's Soccer – Oct. 11/16

Mohawk Mountaineers vs. Fanshawe Falcons


(London, Ontario) – On Tuesday evening, the Fanshawe Men's Soccer team (6-1-1) defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (3-4-1) by a final score of 2-0.  Fanshawe is in first place in the OCAA West Division.


In the 10th minute, Mohawk had a great chance to score but Falcons goalkeeper Mohammed Nabavieh made two great saves to keep the game scoreless.  After 33 minutes of play, both teams had attempted eight shots but neither team had found the back of the net.  Fanshawe was in full control for the final minutes of the half and just before the halftime whistle, Robert M'Boko scored, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.


In the 48th minute, the Falcons were awarded a penalty kick but Mohawk's Philip Lucek made a diving save to keep the score 1-0. In the 76th minute, Fanshawe's defender Matt Catalano made an incredible run through a number of Mountaineers and eventually set up teammate Jacob Atkinson to give Fanshawe the 2-0 lead.  Mohawk would have a couple of chances down the stretch but Fanshawe would hold on to win the game 2-0.


Fanshawe returns to action on Saturday, October 15, when they travel to Sarnia, Ontario to take on the Lambton Lions (3-4).
