(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the #5 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team (6-1) defeated the previously undefeated Humber Hawks (5-1) in four sets (18-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-19). In the first set, the Hawks jumped out to a 7-2 lead, including back-to-back aces by Clayton Blanchette. Fanshawe battled back and the momentum started to shift after a diving dig by David Gundrum was transitioned into a massive right side kill by Nate Van Camp. Humber built their lead back up to as many as seven and the Falcons could never recover. The Hawks would take the first set 25-18 with Blanchette scoring a game-high 12 points.
Fanshawe started the second with more energy and led 6-3 early in the set. The Falcons forced the Hawks into a number of hitting errors and pulled ahead 14-7 before Humber took a timeout. Fanshawe continued to keep the pressure on with kills in the middle by both Evan Ravn and Mike Liscumb. In a balanced attack, the Falcons rolled to the 25-14 victory with five different Falcons all scoring multiple times.
In the third, Fanshawe had an early 7-4 lead on some great serving by James Jackson. The Falcons continued to win the battle at the net and the Hawks called a timeout down 13-6 after a big stuff block by Sebastian Lethbridge. Fanshawe's Liscumb put the exclamation point on the game with a block on set point as the Falcons finished the game on a 12-7 to win 25-13.
After a 4-4 start in the fourth set, Fanshawe's James Jackson electrified the fans with a right side attack that brought the entire gym to their feet. The Falcons then went on an 11-4 run to take a commanding 15-8 lead. Lethbridge did a fantastic job running the offense, spreading the ball around to everyone, as the Falcons pulled away and won the set 25-19. Jackson led the Falcons with 15 kills.
