(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the two top ranked teams in the OCAA put on a show at Fanshawe College.  The CCAA #1 ranked Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team (4-1) fell to the #6 ranked Mohawk Mountaineers (4-0) in four sets 25-22, 25-27, 25-18, 25-20.

Mohawk jumped ahead 3-0 in the first set, but a block by James Jackson put the Falcons on the board.   After being down by four, 12-8, the Falcons settled down and Mohawk started to make some unforced errors.  Fanshawe closed the gap to one, 16-15, but a pair of long rallies ended in Mountaineer points and Fanshawe called a timeout.  Fanshawe served up a pair of aces at the end of the game but Mohawk took the set by a final score 25-22.  Trevor McLaughlin had seven points for Mohawk.

In the second set, both teams came out firing with huge kills.  The Mountaineers led 15-10 but started to hit a number of unforced errors.  Fanshawe clawed back and tied the game at 17 on a stuff block in the middle by Jackson.  With the score 20-19 for Mohawk, Fanshawe's Jack Daley served up an ace and tied the game once again.  However, the Mountaineers were relentless and pulled ahead 23-21, forcing the Falcons to take a timeout.  After a missed serve by Mohawk, Nate Van Camp put up a huge solo block to tie the game at 24.  The Falcons took the lead 26-25 and then Andre Foreman scored down the line to give Fanshawe the second set comeback win.

In the third, Mohawk again took an early lead.  A back and forth set stayed close but with the score 15-13 for Mohawk, the Mountaineers scored three straight kills and took an 18-13 lead.  After a Fanshawe timeout, a huge kill by Jackson from the backrow brought the whole gym to their feet.  Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Mohawk would win the third set by a final score of 25-18.

Mohawk's momentum continued in the fourth set, jumping out to an early 9-3 lead.  Fanshawe bounced back behind some solid blocking, scoring four straight and closing the gap to two.  Fanshawe continued to push and after Sebastian Lethbridge had a huge block and Van Camp served an ace, Fanshawe tied the game at 12.  After a Mohawk timeout, the Falcons continued to dominate at the net, scoring five of the next six points to take a 17-13 lead.  Mohawk battled all the way back and took the lead 21-20.  A number of hitting errors down the stretch by Fanshawe would be costly as Mohawk would go on to win the game 25-20.
