(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday night at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, the Fanshawe Falcons Women's Basketball team won the opening game of the regular season against the Redeemer Royals by a score of 78-55.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead, fast breaking at every opportunity and scoring a demanding 28 points in the first quarter. Fanshawe continued to run the floor in the second quarter, as Fanshawe veteran Laura Vere found Ali Vlasman for the easy layup. The Falcons continued to use their speed to their advantage, and found themselves up 45-27 at the half.
The Royals did not back down, and in the third quarter went on a run of their own, led by fourth year player Jesseca Brown. Redeemer came within five points of the Falcons, however that was as close as they would get. Fanshawe stepped it up in the fourth, starting with a couple of key steals by Vere. Vlasman was huge on the boards for the Falcons, pulling down nine rebounds. The Falcons held Redeemer to only nine points in the final quarter.
Fanshawe's Top Performer:
Ali Vlasman – 17 points, 9 rebounds
Redeemer's Top Performer:
Jesseca Brown – 18 points, 11 rebounds
The Falcons will host the Lambton Lions (1-1) this Saturday, October 31, at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre. Tip off will be at 1pm.
