(London, Ontario) – On Thursday night at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team improved their record to 3-1 on the season by virtue of a 3-1 win over the Conestoga Condors (0-2) in the home opener.   

 

Fanshawe and Conestoga battled point for point for the majority of the opening set. The Falcons found themselves down 24-22, but stayed calm and scored four straight points, winning 26-24.

 

The second set started with three aces by Falcon captain Darian Gropp, making Conestoga take an early timeout. Fanshawe continued their attack, going up 14-4 and forcing a second Conestoga timeout. The Condors could not make up the deficit, as the Falcons continued to put up some impressive blocks. The home team won the second set by a score of 25-12.

 

Fanshawe had the momentum in the third set, starting with a huge kill by Christina O'Neill to take an early lead. Conestoga fought back however, and eventually won 25-23 to force a fourth set.

 

The Condors continued where they left off, taking the 13-8 advantage to start the fourth set. Fanshawe was able to slowly chip away and found themselves back up 21-18. Conestoga did not let up, tying the score at 23. After a clutch serve by Taylor McDonald, the Falcons went on to win the game 26-24. Fanshawe won the match by a final score of 3-1.

 

Fanshawe's Top Performer:

Taylor McDonald – 12 kills, 1 block, 2 aces

 

Conestoga's Top Performer:

Madisson McKellar – 8 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace

 

The Falcons next game will be at home against the Sheridan Bruins (0-1) this Sunday, November 1 at 1pm.
