(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (2-0) defeated the Lambton Lions (1-2) by a score of 82-41 at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons started off strong, playing tough pressure defense that led to fast break points. Fanshawe's Victoria Racine hit a nice midrange jumper and the Falcons went on to take the 21-13 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Lambton on a run, hitting three 3-pointers in a row. Fanshawe then came back, with Maddy Kielar scoring a bucket with the foul. Kielar grabbed 5 offensive rebounds in the second quarter alone. The Falcons led 44-27 at the half.
Fanshawe came out flying in the third quarter, scoring 24 points to Lambton's 4. Back-to-back steals from Ali Vlasman and Anique Daley gave the Falcons the momentum. Going into the final quarter, the Falcons led the Lions 68-31.
Lambton could not recover from the large deficit, and Fanshawe went on to win by a score of 82-41. The Falcons outrebounded the Lions 82-44 and 13 different Fanshawe players scored at least a bucket.
Fanshawe's Top Performers:
Ali Vlasman – 12 points, 10 rebounds
Maddy Kielar – 10 points, 10 rebounds
Lambton's Top Performer:
Riley Williams – 8 points
The Falcons next game will be at home against the Humber Hawks (2-0) next Saturday, November 7, at 1pm.
