(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday evening, the CCAA #13 ranked Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (11-4) defeated the Lambton Lions (4-11) by a final score of 72-59.  Fanshawe has now won four straight games and are in third place in the OCAA West Division.

Halfway through the first quarter, the Lions led by three, but Fanshawe would come back to tie the game on a pair of free throws by Ali Vlasman at 12-12.  The Falcons would end the first on an 11-0 run to take a seven point lead, 19-12, into the second quarter. Mikhalia Wright had a big quarter on the offensive end for Fanshawe, scoring 13 points including three three-pointers. Fanshawe would extend the lead to 12 but the Lions used a 10-0 run of their own to close the gap to just two, 24-22.  Fanshawe's Haly Hawkins dropped a mid-range jumper over a Lambton defender to stop the Lions run. At the end of the half, the Falcons would lead 31-25 over the Lions.

Fanshawe's Wright started the third quarter right where she left off in the first half, knocking down yet another three-pointer. The Falcons extended the lead to double digits and led by 11 after Vlasman knocked down another free throw.  With that free throw, Vlasman would now have 577 points in her career and move to seventh all-time at Fanshawe, the most by any active player. The Falcons would lead 53-44 with one quarter to play. Fanshawe's defense stepped up in the fourth with a number of blocks and steals.  With the Falcons leading 61-50, Wright knocked down her seventh three-pointer of the game, hitting a new Fanshawe record for three-pointers made in a single game.  The Falcons would keep the pressure on and come away with the 72-59 win. Wright finished with a game-high 36 points with seven three-pointers, both new Fanshawe records for a Falcons Women's Basketball player.
