(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday evening, the Fanshawe Women's Soccer team (8-0) defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-4) by a final score of 1-0.  The Falcons are in first place in the OCAA West Division, leading in both goals for (38) and goals against (5).   Fanshawe is ranked #2 in Ontario and #5 in Canada.

In the first half, the ball rarely left Mohawk's end of the field.  In the 25th minute, Fanshawe's Sheree Uyl scored to put the Falcons up 1-0.  The Falcons dominated possession of the ball and had a number of fantastic shots on goal but Mohawk's goalkeeper Laura Blackburn made 10 first half saves to keep the Mountaineers in the game.  At the half, Fanshawe led 1-0.  Just minutes into the second half, a great sequence by Fanshawe narrowly missed giving the Falcons a second goal when Jade Kovacevic hit the post but Mohawk continued to send the Falcons away.  In a well defended game, Fanshawe would come away with the 1-0 victory.  The Falcons would finish with 20 shots on goal compared to Mohawk's seven.

Next Saturday, October 15, the Falcons are on the road to take on the Lambton Lions (0-7-1). When the two teams met back on September 21, Fanshawe won the game 7-0.
