(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday night, the Fanshawe Women's Softball team (13-5) defeated the Conestoga Condors (12-10) in both games of their doubleheader by scores of 5-0 and 7-6.
In the first game of the doubleheader, both starting pitchers started out in control. Through three and a half innings, the game was still scoreless. In the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons would score a run and take a 1-0 lead. After another scoreless inning for Conestoga, Fanshawe's Reannah Hogarth-McLean would lead off the fifth inning with a solo homerun to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Fanshawe would score another run on a bunt and lead 3-0 after five innings of play. In the bottom of the sixth, after hitting three singles, Fuller came through with a big two RBI single to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead. Five runs was more than enough for starting pitcher Jacey Lochert (3-1), who finished with the complete game win, only giving up three hits to the Condors.
Conestoga started the first inning of game two with a pair of singles but hit into an inning ending double play. Fanshawe also started the bottom half of the inning with two singles but were able to cash one in on an RBI single by Lochert, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Conestoga came back with two runs in the top of the second after a pair of triples but Fanshawe stormed right back with an RBI triple of their own by Abigail Schenk to tie the game at two. The Condors would retake the lead in the top of the third but again the Falcons would respond, this time scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. Conestoga would score one in the sixth and two in the seventh but the Falcons would complete the sweep, taking the second game 7-6. Lydia Kabfleisch (2-3) would get the win with Lochert (1) earning the save.
Fanshawe returns to Stronach Park this Friday, October 14, when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-11) for a doubleheader.
