(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (2-3) fell to the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-2) in four sets 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23.  Fanshawe is tied for fourth place in the OCAA West Division with four points.

The home crowd was right into the match after the opening serve.  With the score 2-1 for the Falcons, the crowd erupted after a massive stuff block by Fanshawe's Lindsay Wilcox.  Fanshawe maintained their early lead for the first half of the set but Mohawk battled back on some great defense and tied the game at 12. After Mohawk led 19-17, Fanshawe stormed back on some great serving and took the lead 20-19.  Unfortunately for the Falcons, Mohawk put together a run of tough serves and went on to win the set 25-22.

In the second set, with the game tied at 7, Wilcox hit a massive overpass by Mohawk for a point that brought the crowd to their feet.  After another kill by Wilcox, the Mountaineers called a timeout, down two, 9-7.  Behind some great serving by Darian Gropp, Fanshawe scored seven straight and led 14-7 before Mohawk finally scored another point.  The Mountaineers wouldn't back down and put up some big blocks at the net but the Falcons pushed through and won the set 25-19.

Mohawk jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set on some tough serving by Amanda Kuiper.  Both teams traded points back and forth but the Falcons could never get any closer than two.  With the score 24-22 for Mohawk, the Falcons missed a serve and the Mountaineers would take the third set 25-22 and take a two sets to one lead.

Again, Mohawk came out early in the set and led 4-0, before an unforced error put the Falcons on the board.  A couple of kills by middle blocker Renee McCormick closed the gap to one but Mohawk would not give up the lead.  The Mountaineers played fantastic defense and continued to keep the ball in play.  With the score 16-13, a kill by Wilcox and then back-to-back aces by Gropp tied the game for the Falcons at 16.  Down 20-19, Fanshawe's Couch put up two consecutive blocks to give the Falcons the lead.  After tying the game at 23, Mohawk finished the game with two aces to win 25-23.
