(London, Ontario) – On Saturday night in a full house at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, Fanshawe's Men's Basketball team (8-6) defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-8) by a score of 77-69.
The first quarter was a defensive battle, as both teams struggled to score the ball. Mohawk held a slim 6-5 lead midway through the quarter. A put-back by Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON), followed by a layup by Filip Pejic (Hamilton, ON) sparked a 14-0 run for the Falcons. Eight straight points from Chris Parker (Toledo, OH) gave Fanshawe an 18-10 lead. In the second frame, the Falcons used their momentum to stretch their lead to 13 points with a strong drive to the basket from Sean Clendinning (Orillia, ON). Mohawk stayed within reach, cutting the home team's lead to 36-27 before the end of the half. Parker had 13 first half points for the Falcons.
In the third quarter, Mohawk would open with a 10-4 run. D'Andre Austin (Toronto, ON) had a strong take to the rim to keep the Falcons lead at 47-44 midway through the third. Unfortunately for Fanshawe, the Mountaineers hit a couple of big 3-pointers to give Mohawk the 56-52 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Falcons regrouped and came out strong in the fourth quarter. With a deep triple from Parker, the red and white regained the lead. A big offensive rebound by Austin resulted in another two points for Fanshawe. Sean Clendinning then extended the lead to 71-62 with a stop and pop mid-range jumper. A shot clock buzzer beater by Parker excited the crowd and the Falcons would hold on for a 77-69 victory.

Mohawk's Top Performer:
Braedon Lenters – 16 points, 7 rebounds
The Falcons next game will be at home on Friday, February 2 at 8pm versus University of Toronto-Mississauga (0-12).
