(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (5-3) upset the #5 nationally ranked Redeemer Royals (7-1) on Thursday night by a final score of 89-76.

Fanshawe started off strong in the first quarter against a tough Redeemer squad. A 3-pointer from Chris Parker (Toledo, ON) and a solid drive to the basket by Sean Clendinning (Orillia, ON) got the Falcons going. Jake Clendinning (Orillia, ON) then drew an offensive foul, which sparked a Fanshawe run. The home team held a slim 18-16 lead, behind 11 points from Parker after the opening ten minutes.

Redeemer took a brief lead midway through the second quarter before five straight points from Sean Clendinning gave the Falcons the lead again. Fanshawe's defense continued to stifle Redeemer, forcing them into two shot clock violations. Forward Lex Van Iperen (Englehart, ON) had a buzzer-beater put-back at the end of the half to extend Fanshawe's lead to 40-33.

The Royals came out strong in the second half, going on a 12-0 run at the beginning of the third quarter. The Falcons responded with back-to-back buckets from Filip Pejic (Hamilton, ON). Unfortunately for the Falcons, Redeemer found their stroke and hit four triples in the third quarter, taking a 60-55 lead.

In the fourth, Fanshawe regained the momentum and the lead with three triples from Parker, Sean and Jake Clendinning. A great hustle play by Mohammad Alor (Winnipeg, MB) resulted in a Redeemer turnover and two free throws for Alor, who made both. The Falcons continued to pour it on offensively with buckets from Parker and Sean Clendinning. Fanshawe's Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON) had a huge block to seal the deal, as the Falcons went on to win 89-76, handing the Royals their first loss of the season.
