(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Soccer team has advanced to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) semi-final which will take place on Friday, October 30. The Men's Soccer team defeated the Niagara Knights by a score of 2-0 in overtime this morning.
The Falcons were in control of the possession for the majority of the game, but were unable to capitalize on numerous opportunities, resulting in a 0-0 score after 90 minutes. Falcon player Cedric N'Guessan scored in minute 97 to put Fanshawe up 1-0 in overtime. They would seal the deal when Daniel Amaya-Romero added a second goal in minute 110. The Player of the Game for the Falcons was Alberto Barquin. Fanshawe, ranked seventh in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), will now face the host Humber Hawks (9-0-1), who are ranked second in the nation, at 3:30pm tomorrow.
The Falcons Women's team lost a heartbreaker to the Seneca Sting this afternoon by a final score of 3-1. Fanshawe got off to a quick start, with Katie Rowe scoring in the 6th minute. The Sting came back, scoring in minute 16 to tie the game at one. In the second half, Seneca scored a header off of a corner kick in the 63rd minute to go up 2-1. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Seneca received a penalty kick shortly after and scored to go up 3-1. The Player of the Game for the Falcons was Rowe. Fanshawe will now play in the consolation round tomorrow at noon against the host, Fleming College.
