(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Athletics announced today, that Women's Curling student-athlete Kaitlyn Poirier (Sioux Lookout, ON) has been named the Fanshawe Female Student-Athlete of the Month for March.


Poirier led the Fanshawe Falcons Women's Curling team to a CCAA Gold Medal at the National Championship in Leduc, Alberta from March 24-28.  The Fanshawe skip led the Falcons to a first place finish after round robin play with a record of 6-1. Then, in the semi-final against MacEwan, Fanshawe won 6-5 in an extra end to advance to the National Final.


In the CCAA Final against Camosun College, once again in an extra end, the Falcons defeated the Chargers by a score of 5-4. With the hammer in the 11th end, Poirier made the takeout on the final rock to score one and win the National Gold Medal. Fanshawe finished the tournament with an impressive 8-1 record.  Poirier is a fourth year student-athlete in the Chemical Laboratory Technology program.


For her accomplishments, Poirier will receive a health and wellness package.
