Information about Sexual Awareness Activities
Our Counselling and Accessibility Office works closely with students, our campus and community partners to end sexual violence and to take down rape culture. The College hosts interactive and educational events at least twice a month. Although Sexual Awareness Week is one week, this is only the kick off to an entire year of programming that is aimed at creating a safer, survivor-centred campus for all students.
Monday, September 12, 2016: Launching of Fanshawe's colouring book for survivors, supporters and agents of change,Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Each Other, Take Care of This Place.
Pick up your free copy of Fanshawe's colouring book for survivors, supporters and agents of change. Fanshawe's Sexual Violence Prevention Advisor and Tristan McDonald, a Fine Arts student, worked together to create a colouring book that aims to take down rape culture on our campus. The library is hosting a display this week for Sexual Awareness Week; here you can pick up a copy of the colouring book and check out other resources available on campus and in our community.
Wednesday, September 14, 2016: Sexual Awareness Fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Forwell Hall
Fanshawe is hosting its annual Sexual Awareness Fair on Thursday, September 14, 2016. Fanshawe has collaborated with our campus and community partners to host an interactive and educational fair that will focus on sexual health, celebrating gender and sexual diversity, taking down rape culture, and ending sexual violence on campus. The fair will give students the opportunity to interact with services and discover the resources that are available on our campus and in our community. Please join us and our campus and community partners on Wednesday: the Regional Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Program, the Middlesex London Health Unit, London Abused Women's Centre, Sexual Assault Centre London, Spot of Delight, Carrefour des Femmes, Campus Security Services, Fowler Kennedy Health Services, Fanshawe's Campus Life Facilitator, Fanshawe's Sexual Violence Prevention Advisor, and The Fanshawe Student Union.
Wednesday, September 14, 2016: Sexual Awareness Short Film Festival, room D1041 (London Campus), 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
Come enjoy a wide range of short films that will continue the conversations that we are having on campus not just during Sexual Awareness Week but all year long. The films will touch on sexual health, celebrating gender and sexual diversity, taking down rape culture, and ending sexual violence on campus. Grab some free popcorn and enjoy some short films during Sexual Awareness Week!
Thursday, September 15, 2016: Laci Green, Taking Down Rape Culture, J Gym 3 (London Campus), 8 p.m.
Laci Green, host of the YouTube video series Sex Plus, will speak to Fanshawe students about sexual violence at a free show on Thursday, September 15. During her talk, Green will take an in-depth look at our culture's attitudes and responses to sexual violence. Using pop culture examples, videos and discussion questions, this program illuminates the problem and helps bring it to a halt.
