Leading trailer manufacturer supports students interested in aluminum welding

(Simcoe, Ontario) – Titan Trailers Inc., based in Delhi, Ontario, has made a generous donation to support the welding program at the Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus of Fanshawe College. The contribution, which totals over $40,000, will allow Fanshawe to add equipment, introduce a new aluminum welding course, and offer awards to outstanding students annually for the next five years. This strategic collaboration will begin in the 2015-16 academic year.

Among the largest employers in Norfolk County, Titan Trailers is recognized as a leader in the transportation industry. The company manufactures a wide array of trailers with a special focus on attention to detail and job-specific functionality, providing innovative solutions for the hauling of grain, gravel, lumber, asphalt, trash, scrap metal, and other materials.

Mike Kloepfer, the company founder and president, noted that one consistent challenge for Titan Trailers has been to attract employees who have experience in welding aluminum. Following the company motto that 'the only way to change the future is to invent it', Kloepfer decided to support the welding program at Fanshawe by providing students the opportunity to learn how to weld aluminum with the best possible equipment.

"Titan Trailers is growing," Kloepfer said. "We are looking forward to working with Fanshawe to make sure that students have the chance to study and practice aluminum welding. This is a good partnership for Titan Trailers, Fanshawe, and for Norfolk County. It is paramount that people have the skills necessary to stay and work locally. It is the intent of this donation to make this happen."

Donna Gates, Chair of the Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus, praised Kloepfer and Titan Trailers for making such an exceptional contribution to support students.

"Fanshawe is committed to responding to labour market needs and supporting economic development in Norfolk County," she said. "The equipment provided by Titan Trailers will allow us to add a valuable new dimension to our Welding Techniques program, providing a level of training in aluminum welding that we have not offered before. This is a great step forward."

A special event will be held at the Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus in October to celebrate the donation. Media representatives will be invited to attend.

About the Welding Techniques program at Fanshawe College:

Fanshawe College offers a Welding Techniques certificate program at both the Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus and the St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus. Students in the program learn how to perform basic welds and are prepared by the end of the program to test for a welding ticket. A wide range of job skills are taught: blueprint reading and sketching, applied math, communication, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, introduction to computers, all-position pipe welding, and health and safety regulations. Significantly, students have the opportunity to gain practical experience through a 120-hour work placement.
