How to Determine Your Grade Point Average
A 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) is required for graduation from Fanshawe College programs with the exception of applied degree programs where a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) is required. You can view your term grades and GPA on WebAdvisor.
The GPA is a numerical value that is calculated using two components:
- The points assigned to a grade:
- Effective September 1, 2005:
A+ = 4 .2 points
A = 4.0 points
B+ = 3.5 points
B = 3 points
C+ = 2.5 points
C = 2 points,
D+ =1.5 points
D = 1 point
- September 1, 2002 - August 31, 2005:
A+ = 4 .0 points
A = 4.0 points
B = 3 points,
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
- Effective September 1, 2005:
- The course credit units:
- Course credit units are a value assigned to a course based on the total number of hours of the course and the methods of evaluation and delivery of the course.
- Click here to see the credit units for your courses and:
- Select "Full-time day programs"
- Select your program
- Select Course Information, which is at the bottom of your Program Information web page.
- Course credit units are a value assigned to a course based on the total number of hours of the course and the methods of evaluation and delivery of the course.
Calculating your Grade Points:
Grade points for a course = points assigned to your grade multiplied by the credit units for the course.
Calculating your Grade Point Average:
- Total the grade points for your courses
- Total the credit units for your courses
- Divide the grade point total by the credit unit total.
See below for an example calculation of a GPA.
Example of a Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation
Here is an example of a student in the (non-existent) Forestry Management Program.
