Internal course credit
Internal credit is credit granted by Fanshawe College for a Fanshawe College course on the basis of previous credit achieved in a different Fanshawe College course(s).

Students may apply for an Internal Credit by completing and submitting an Application for Course Credit form to Registrar Services, room E1012.

Students are responsible for providing documentation necessary to support an application for credit. Completed application forms and supporting documents should be submitted to the Office of the Registrar well before the commencement of the course for which credit is sought and in any case must be submitted not later than 14 calendar days after the commencement of the term. Students must attend classes pending notification of the decision on their application for course credit.

External course credit
External credit is credit granted by Fanshawe College for a Fanshawe College course on the basis of previous credit achieved at another institution.

Students may apply for external credit in a course required for their program by completing and submitting an Application for External Credit form to the Office of the Registrar.

Students are responsible for providing documentation necessary to support an application for credit. Completed application forms and supporting documents should be submitted to the Office of the Registrar well before the commencement of the course for which credit is sought and in any case must be submitted not later than 14 calendar days after the commencement of the term. Students must attend classes pending notification of the decision on their application for course credit.

Approval of course credit
Each Course Division is responsible for establishing and making known to students its policies and procedures for evaluating applications for internal/external credit. The course division Chairperson is responsible for approving or not approving an application for Internal/external credit and conveying this decision to the students.

Advanced standing (transferring from another post secondary institution)
Advanced standing is credit granted by Fanshawe College for all or most of the courses of a program level(s) on the basis of previous academic achievement at another institution - thus qualifying the applicant for direct entry to the second or higher level of the program without jeopardizing the opportunity to be successful in that level. 

How to apply
An applicant may apply for advanced standing by completing the appropriate section of an 'Application for Admission to Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology' form and submitting the form to the Ontario College Application Service (ontariocolleges.ca) in Guelph prior to the submission deadline for applications. Applicants are responsible for providing documentation necessary to support an application for advanced standing.

Approval of advanced standing
Each Program Division is responsible for establishing its policies and procedures for evaluating applications for Advanced Standing. The Program Chairperson is responsible for approving an Application for Advanced Standing.

Documentation required
The following items must be submitted in order for your application to be processed:

  • Certified transcript(s) of your academic achievement beyond secondary school. If Fanshawe is the only College you are applying to, the transcripts may be sent directly to Registrar Services by the institution(s) you attended. If you have applied to more than one college, all transcripts should be sent to the Ontario College Application Service. Note: If your current transcript indicates courses still in progress, please send a current transcript now and a final transcript as soon as it is available.
     
  • Course outlines (IN DUPLICATE) for each course on your post secondary transcript(s)

As soon as the application and all documents requested are received, we will forward your application to the Program Division for assessment.
