Athletics Publicity and Promotion Assistant – Game Night

Position Description


Overview:  Fanshawe College, under a partnership agreement with the Fanshawe College Student Union, competes in selected intercollegiate sports within the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (O.C.A.A.) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (C.C.A.A.).  Under the same agreement the college operates an extensive intramural athletics program involving over 5000 student athletes. The objective of this position is to contribute to the publicity and promotion activities of the Athletics Department, which in turn are aimed at maximizing student participation and enjoyment of all facets of the athletics programs.


Duties:  Under the supervision of the Manager of Athletics or a designate, the game night promotions assistant prepares and operates half time, pre-game and post-game spectator involvement activities.  In addition, the incumbent greets fans, alumni, guests and media, helps sell food and drink, and works with the mascot and game announcer.  The incumbent develops and initiates strategies, which will create fan support and school spirit. This includes updating social media for the Athletics department such as Facebook and Twitter. The incumbent may assist in the preparation and posting of promotional materials pertaining to college athletics programs, including game day posters, tournament and special events posters, etc, well in advance of the games and events. The incumbent may assist in the production of Game Day and Tournament Programs or other duties as assigned by the Program Officer in charge of Game Nights.


Qualification:  Applicants must be full time registered students at Fanshawe College in a program which is relevant to the above duties. The applicant must also be able to demonstrate effective communication skills and basic knowledge of marketing and public relations.


Remuneration:  The applicant will be paid the current minimum wage.
