(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (1-2) fell to the Niagara Knights (3-0) in a thrilling game on Thursday night by a final score of 61-60.

Good ball movement by the Falcons gave them a 17-15 lead after the first quarter of play. Niagara then stepped up their defense and went on a 10-1 run to start the second. Seven straight points from Sean Clendinning (Orillia, ON) got the Falcons back in the game before the end of the half, as the Knights held a 33-26 advantage going into the dressing room. Clendinning led Fanshawe in the first half with 12 points.

The third quarter began with a left-handed layup by Lex Van Iperen (Englehart, ON) followed by a midrange jumper by Chris Parker (Toledo, OH). Clendinning then stripped the ball from Niagara's hands and went down to score a triple to continue Fanshawe's run. The Falcons tied the game 43-43 on a Mohammed Alor (Winnipeg, MB) shot from behind the arc. In the fourth, a pair of Van Iperen free throws gave Fanshawe their first lead of the half. The defensive battle continued, as rookie Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON) had back-to-back blocks for the red and white. With 22 seconds left in the game, Niagara would hit a bank 3-pointer to take the one point lead. Parker then would hit a huge midrange shot to reclaim the lead for the Falcons. Unfortunately, with four seconds left on the clock, Niagara was fouled while shooting a three pointer, and then made two of three from the line to gain the one point advantage and hold on for the win, 61-60.
