(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday evening at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre in their final home game, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team fell just short to the #14 nationally ranked Sheridan Bruins (16-4) by a score of 85-82. The Falcons finished their regular season with a record of 11-9, good for sixth place in a competitive OCAA West Division.
The Falcons came out flying, taking a quick 5-0 lead to open the first quarter. Sheridan then stepped up their defensive pressure, forcing Fanshawe to turn the ball over in the back court. The Bruins extended their lead to 22-16 on a fast break layup. Fanshawe forward Matthew Hall (Penetanguishene, ON) had a strong put back to keep the Falcons within reach. Going into the locker room, Fanshawe trailed Sheridan 48-44, behind 18 first half points from Sean Clendinning (Orillia, ON).
Yet another midrange jumper from Sean Clendinning started the Falcons off in the third quarter. Chris Parker (Toledo, OH) then found an open Zach Soltis (Cambridge, ON) for a layup to cut the Bruins lead to 52-49. Fanshawe then took a brief 57-56 lead on a pair of free throws from Devonte Douse (Cambridge, ON). In the fourth frame, Sheridan went on a 6-0 run to retake the lead 65-61. Parker got back-to-back offensive rebounds to give the Falcons extra possessions that resulted in Fanshawe points. Unfortunately, sharp shooting from the Bruins down the stretch found the home team down three with 3.3 seconds left. Fanshawe was unable to tie the game on a half court try, and ultimately fell 85-82.
