(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday evening at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (10-6) defeated the St. Clair Saints (6-10) by a score of 71-69.


Fanshawe forward Matthew Hall (Penetanguishene, ON) opened the scoring with a strong layup. He then followed that with a steal and assist to Sean Clendinning (Orillia, ON) for a 3-pointer. St. Clair was able to keep the game close with a pair of triples. Chris Parker (Toledo, OH) had a beautiful layup on an alley-oop pass to excite the home crowd and the Falcons held a slim 18-12 lead after the first quarter. In the second frame, St. Clair went on an 8-0 run to take the lead. Going into the locker room, the Saints held a 36-28 advantage.


Fanshawe worked hard to chip away at the Saints lead throughout the third quarter. Sean Clendinning had a beautiful step back 3-pointer to cut the lead to three points. The teams exchanged possessions but both teams struggled to capitalize on opportunities. The Falcons found themselves down 46-44 going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, Parker tied the game with two free throws. Fanshawe then took the lead on a Parker jumper inside the paint. A Filip Pejic (Hamilton, ON) mid-range shot, followed by a huge shot from behind the arc from Sean Clendinning gave the Falcons some momentum. The Falcons added a bucket in transition to extend their lead to six points. St. Clair then regrouped and came back to tie the game at 68. Fanshawe retook the lead with a pair of free throws by Sean Clendinning. The Saints had an opportunity at the charity stripe to tie the game with 3.5 seconds remaining, however missed the second free throw and Fanshawe grabbed the rebound. The Falcons would hold on and win the game 71-69.


Fanshawe's Top Performers:

Chris Parker – 25 points, 5 rebounds

Sean Clendinning – 17 points, 3 rebounds


St. Clair's Top Performer:

Gil Atencio – 15 points, 16 rebounds


The Falcons will hit the court again on Saturday, February 10, when they host the #11 ranked Humber Hawks (13-4) at 8pm. The last time the two teams met in Etobicoke on November 26, the Hawks edged the Falcons 72-68.
