(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday afternoon, the Fanshawe Men's Soccer team (8-0-2) completed their undefeated regular season with a win over the St. Clair Saints (5-3-2) by a final score of 2-1. The Falcons are ranked #5 in the CCAA National Rankings.
The first half was very evenly matched, with both teams having six shot attempts. It was a defensive battle, as neither team had any clear opportunities to take the lead. Fanshawe's Mike Sneddon (Mount Brydges, ON) opened the scoring in the second half on a nice shot to the bottom left corner of the net in the 48th minute. Sneddon leads the Falcons in scoring, with nine goals on the season. Fanshawe extended their lead in the 82nd minute, when Bai-Essa Coker (Bakans, Gambia) got his head on a beautiful corner kick by Chris DeDecker (Wallaceburg, ON). In the 90th minute, St. Clair would get a goal of their own, but could not complete the comeback and the Falcons went on to win by a score of 2-1.
Fanshawe returns to the field on October 26, when they will play in an OCAA quarterfinal game at the Provincial Championship versus a to be determined opponent. The Championship will be hosted by Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario and will run from October 26-28.
