Fanshawe Men's Volleyball Captures Back-to-Back West Division Titles

Tie Falcons record for most wins in a season with sweep of Mohawk

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, the #2 nationally ranked Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team (17-0) clinched first place in the OCAA West Division with a 3-0 win over Mohawk (6-11). The Falcons continued their undefeated season and extend their OCAA regular season unbeaten streak to 30 matches. This marks the second consecutive year that the Falcons Men's Volleyball program has claimed first place in a competitive OCAA West Division and ties the Fanshawe Volleyball record for most wins in a season with 17.

The Falcons came out flying in the opening set, going up 8-1. Cole Jordan (London, ON) had three quick kills, followed by a point from Zach Albert (Brampton, ON). A back row attack by Will Otten (Delaware, ON) extended Fanshawe's lead to 16-7 midway through the set. The Mountaineers could not contain the Falcons high powered offense, and Fanshawe went on to win set one, 25-11.

A service ace by Jordan gave Fanshawe the lead in the second set. Although Mohawk stayed within reach, Fanshawe continued to pressure with hits from Jordan and Mike Liscumb (Ilderton, ON). A kill from Albert, assisted by setter Sebastian Lethbridge (London, ON) got the home crowd on their feet, as the Falcons won the second set 25-16.

Jordan did not waste any time in the third set, recording two consecutive kills for the Falcons and showing why he is leading the OCAA in hitting percentage (.417). Albert then made the score 16-11 on a stuff block. Alec Buglar added his name to the stat sheet on a kill that stretched Fanshawe's lead to 23-12. The Mountaineers could not recover and the Falcons won the final set 25-16 to sweep the match and the season series.
