(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team has found their new
coach. Nathan McFadden, Manager of Athletics, is pleased to announce Patrick
Johnston as the new Fanshawe Falcons Men's Volleyball Head Coach.
Johnston comes to Fanshawe with an extensive background in volleyball, both as a coach and a player. His coaching resume includes being an assistant coach with Western University, Boston College and the Junior Canadian National Team. This past season, he helped Western reach the CIS National Final Four Tournament for the first time in the programs history. Additionally, Johnston founded the Men's Junior Varsity program at Western, a feeder system which has trained over 200 athletes to date.
As a player, Johnston was a member of Western University's Men's Volleyball program for 4 years. He was an OUA All-Star and was named OUA Libero of the Year in 2011. In 2005, he was the starting libero for the Maccabi Games Team Canada at the NORCECA Championships in Mexico City.
"I am thrilled and honoured to be joining the Falcons family," Johnston says. "I want to thank Manager of Athletics, Nathan McFadden, and the Athletics Department at Fanshawe for allowing me to continue my coaching career at this first class institution. The city of London and the resources available at Fanshawe provide the opportunity to develop a sustainable, nationally-recognized program that can excel within the highly competitive OCAA."
"We are thrilled to add Patrick to our existing group of highly regarded coaches," said McFadden. "He has tremendous passion, vision and energy for coaching and brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge and experience to our men's program. Most importantly he values and exhibits the character traits that we base our programs on and what we look for in our student-athletes."
