(London, Ontario) – The CCAA #11 Fanshawe Women's Basketball squad (17-3) concluded regular season play with a win over the Sheridan Bruins (9-11) by a score of 76-59 on Wednesday evening at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre. With the win, the Falcons clinched second place in the OCAA West Division.


Fanshawe fell behind to start the game, as Sheridan picked up a quick 6-0 lead. The Falcons finally opened the scoring on a bucket from Ali Vlasman (Mount Elgin, ON). Mikhaila Wright (London, ON) then drove to the hoop for Fanshawe to tie the game 8-8. The home team took a 10-8 lead when Chuot Angou (London, ON) hit a shot from behind the arc. In the second quarter, Fanshawe stepped up their defense, however so did the Bruins. With both teams only scoring 11 points a piece in the second frame, Fanshawe found themselves up only six points at half-time, 33-27.


In the second half, Fanshawe came out ready to play and outscored the Bruins 21-10 in the third quarter. The Falcons had four straight points in the paint from Hoda Elkholy (London, ON) to stretch the lead and never looked back. Sydney Kendellen (London, ON) hit a three pointer to seal the deal for the home team and the Falcons went on to win the game 76-59. Angou had a game high eight assists, while Wright added 5 blocks, breaking her own Fanshawe Women's Basketball record for most blocks in a season with 32. On senior night, fifth year Vlasman recorded 12 points and 13 rebounds, completing her regular season career with 831 points and 473 rebounds. She is the Fanshawe Women's Basketball all-time leader in both categories.


Fanshawe's Top Performers:

Sydney Kendellen – 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists

Hoda Elkholy – 15 points, 10 rebounds


Sheridan's Top Performer:

Sydney Charvis – 20 points, 5 assists


The Falcons will host a first round playoff game against the Algonquin Thunder (7-10, 7th in East) on Saturday, February 24 at 1pm. Fanshawe was 9-1 at home this season.
