Ingrid Blekys has been a theatre practitioner for the past 30 years, working extensively as an actor and teacher.
As an actor, she has worked in theatres across Canada and the U.S. including Stratford Festival, The Belfry, The Grand Theatre as well as the Court Theatre in Chicago among others. Ingrid has worked with internationally recognized directors who have influenced her work: Maria Aitken, Zoe Caldwell, Nick Rudall, Timur Dzordzia, Don Shipley and the late great Robin Phillips.
Professor Blekys has taught mask, acting fundamentals/Method and script analysis at the University of Victoria, Windsor University, York University, Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. She has also taught directing at the University of Chicago.
At Fanshawe College, Ingrid teaches LeCoq mask techniques, Method, script analysis, viewpoints and Suzuki.
She is the recipient of the Denise Pelletier/Gutherie Award, the Dorothy Somerset Theatre Award, The Nalini Graduate Award and locally, the Brickenden Award.
