Travelling to Canada

Q. What is the latest information about travelling to Canada?

A. Canada is making some changes to its travel policies that take effect August 9, 2021. Please visit the Government of Canada's website for more information about travelling to Canada.

Here are the changes that take effect on August 9, 2021:

  • The three-night government-authorized hotel requirement will be eliminated for all travellers;
  • Unvaccinated children under 12 travelling with fully vaccinated parents will no longer have to complete a 14-day quarantine;
  • International flights will be permitted to land at airports in Halifax, Quebec City, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton, as well as Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary;
  • Fully-vaccinated travellers will not have to quarantine or take a COVID-19 test upon arrival to Canada - unless requested by an officer.

Here is what is staying the same:

  • All travellers must continue to use the ArriveCAN app to submit their travel information;
  • All travellers (whether vaccinated or not) must complete the pre-entry COVID-19 molecular test;
  • All travellers must be prepared with a 14-day quarantine plan in case they test positive for COVID-19;
  • Unvaccinated travellers are still required to complete a 14-day quarantine.

Fanshawe continues to require unvaccinated travellers to complete their 14-day quarantine at a Fanshawe-approved hotel in either Mississauga or London. Please contact fanshawecares@fanshawec.ca for a complete list of resources.

All Fanshawe students must complete the COVID-19 Readiness Form to have their quarantine plan approved at least five days before travelling.

Fanshawe Cares Arrival Services will continue to offer transportation and quarantine supports for students.

Q. When should I plan to arrive for the Fall 2021 semester?

A. Fall 2021 arrival deadlines for blended programs:

The Canadian government has extended the flight ban on direct flights from India to August 21, 2021. Students who are not fully-vaccinated will still be required to arrive in Canada by August 22 in order to complete the 14-day quarantine before classes start. Fully-vaccinated students who are impacted by the flight ban can email bdossantos@fanshawec.ca to request permission to arrive by no later than September 3, 2021.

Please note that if you receive a positive COVID-19 test at the airport and are required to quarantine for up to 14 days, you will not be able to attend your classes until the quarantine period is complete, and this may impact your ability to be successful this semester. It is your responsibility to understand the potential impacts of your decisions.

A. COVID-19 Readiness Plan

Fanshawe College has received approval for its COVID-19 Readiness Plan and has been added to the official list by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

All designated learning institutions in Canada, including the 24 publicly funded colleges in Ontario, were required to submit their COVID-19 Readiness Plans for approval from the provincial and federal governments, including their respective health agencies.

International students with approved Study Permits or letters of introduction showing approval for a Study Permit are allowed to travel to Canada, whether their program is being delivered fully online or in a blended format.

All students arriving from outside of Canada are required to complete a 14-day quarantine period, and must register their quarantine plan prior to arrival in Canada. Plans must be submitted through the COVID-19 Readiness Form
