This course introduces the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the use of information technology by nurses in relation to client care, health administration, client teaching, nursing education and research. This course was designed to make students aware of professional, legal and ethical issues associated with the use of informatics within nursing. Students will explore the professional application of information technology in nursing education, professional practice and research.This course will extend students' knowledge and skills related to information literacy and knowledge acquisition skills necessary for professional nursing practice. Through active learning, students will determine appropriate knowledge sources for nursing practice.

A gross anatomical description of systematic structure and function of the human body. All the major organ systems will be discussed. Integration between systems will be discussed using clinical examples.

Students engage in learning opportunities to enhance capabilities in therapeutic communication, interviewing, and relational practices with clients across the lifespan. Students document client care in accordance with legal standards of practice.

Nursing 1180A/B/7070 HOLISTIC HEALTH ASSESSMENT II: SYSTEMATIC HEALTH ASSESSMENT In this course application of clinical judgement models provide students a framework to convey information from health assessments as a foundational part of nursing practice. Conducting a focused examination of clients using a system based approach enables students to utilize theoretical components of health assessment in the laboratory environment.

This course provides students with opportunity to deepen their understanding of health, empowering health promotion, and caring in the context of family, community, and populations across the lifespan. Normal growth and development, family health, and community health are addressed. (3 hours per week)

Participation in this course enables the student to continue his/her development of clinical judgment skills and his/her understanding of the professional role of the nurse in caring for clients. Building on the year one courses, the student learns to identify challenges, barriers, and facilitators to optimal health in individuals. Engagement in this learning includes active participation in class discussion, presentations, group work and case studies. Students will continue to develop competency in fundamental nursing concepts and skills.

This course will help prepare students to become knowledgeable consumers and users of research. Students will be introduced to ways of knowing and questioning related to nursing research with the ultimate goal being the advancement of client-centred care and nursing practice. Pathology 242a is an introductory survey course of Pathology - the study of disease. The course will begin with an introduction to processes such as injury, inflammation, immunity, and infection that are common to many organ systems and diseases. The latter half of the course will discuss diseases of specific organ systems.

Students will focus on the assets and needs of families and communities and strategies to support and promote their health. Students will develop collaborative working partnerships with community members.

This course will provide students with the opportunity to apply and integrate concepts learned to date in theory classes, the laboratory and/or other professional practice settings using a variety of learning activities. Students will continue to develop competency in technical nursing skills, the attitudes necessary for nursing and interprofessional practice, and thinking patterns of professional nurses. Development and implementation of holistic plans of care with clients experiencing barriers to health and requiring support to improve and maintain health will be explored. Students will work collaboratively with clients and the interprofessional health care team to engage in client-centred care from a health promotion perspective.
