NSERC Experience Award


Enhances the undergraduate research experience by supporting 16-week work term focused on R&I activities to solve a company-specifc problem.

Value: $4,500

Industry Contribution:  At least $1,125 in cash

NSERC Connect


Supports domestic travel to develop new academic-industry partnerships (Level 1) and research planning and networking activities to develop new academic–industry partnerships or increase student–industry training opportunities in accordance with NSERC’s 2020 Strategic Plan (Level 2).

Value:  Level 1 - $5,000; Level 2 - $25,000

NSERC Applied Research Tools and Instruments (ARTI)


Enhances capacity for colleges to engage in R&I activities with local companies in a particular research area by supporting the purchase of research equipment and installations.

Value:  $7,000 - $150,000

NSERC Innovation Enhancement (IE)


Stimulates collaborative applied research and technology transfer activities in an area of demonstrated strength for the college that bring together necessary expertise from diverse fields such as natural sciences and engineering, social sciences and humanities and/or health sciences to address business-driven challenges that meet local and/or regional needs and increase the economic development of the community.

Value:  Entry Level: $200,000 ($100,000/year); Build: $2,000,000 ($400,000/year)

Industry Contribution:  Entry Level: No minimum company contribution; Build: $300,000 (at least $75,000 must be in cash)

SSHRC Insight Development Grants


Supports research in its initial stages: developing new research questions and experimenting with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Eligible activities include case studies, pilot initiatives, critical analyses of existing research and exploring new ways of producing, structuring and mobilizing knowledge within and across disciplines and sectors.

Value:  $7,000 - $75,000
