Who is eligible to participate?

Any current Fanshawe College student or team of students who have research and/or innovation work they would like to showcase.

What if I am a recent graduate or will have finished my program before the event?

CRI recognizes that programs end at various times of the year. Therefore, eligibility for Research and Innovation Day has been expanded to include persons whose programs finished or will finish after January 1, 2018.

Where do I apply for Rese?

Please review our How to Apply page or fill out online at our Student Entry Form.

Do I have to make a research poster?

Research posters are typically used to showcase research projects, but displays on folding poster boards, models or laptops are fine. All entrants are responsible for providing their own equipment.

What does a research poster look like and what information is on it?

A research poster is a visual summary of the work done. It typically includes the research question(s), data collected, methodologies, analyses and conclusions in words, charts, graphs and/or pictures. It also lists names of the research team members. Once you have applied and been accepted to Research and Innovation Day, you will be provided a poster template.

If I want to make a poster, how do I do that and who pays?

Printing can be done at the College's Reprographics Centre, B1002. Twenty-four (24) hours' notice is required in order to have a poster printed. Printing costs for posters at the College's Reprographics Centre are about $80-100. CRI will cover the cost of posters and other display materials for semi-finalists up to $100 per project. If you choose not to have your poster printed by the Fanshawe Reprographics Centre, you will pay for your materials or poster printing up front, and then submit a Student Reimbursement Form along with original receipt(s) to Special Projects and Events Assistant Stephanie Hernandez, Room K1024, London Campus, Fanshawe College. Make sure your name and student number appear on all receipts.

What if I don't use the $100 for a poster, but have other expenses for materials?

The maximum amount that will be reimbursed is $100 (includes poster printing) per entry. Click here to download a Student Reimbursement Form. CRI needs the original receipt(s). Please write your name and student number on the back of the receipt(s). Drop off your receipts and the reimbursement form at the reception desk in K1024. Fanshawe will mail a cheque to the mailing address specified on the Student Reimbursement Form. Receipts must be submitted no later than Friday, March 23, 2018, to be reimbursed.

How much space will I have for my display?

Each project typically has space of about 4 feet x 3 feet (1.2 metres by 0.9 metres). Depending on your presentation requirements selected through the Student Entry Form, we are able to provide hanging space, table space, and electrical support.

When do we set up our displays and what time do I need to be there?

Participants will be admitted to the showcase floor (James A. Colvin Atrium) starting at 8:00 a.m. on March 20, 2019.

Details on set-up and tear-down times can be found under RID Overview.

When do I need to be at my display?

Judges begin making their rounds, visiting all displays, starting at 10:00 a.m. All participants stand beside their displays, explain their projects, and respond to questions from the judges. Since the event is open to the public, others also may have questions.

If I/my team wins, how do I/we claim our prize money?

Cheques will be mailed out after the event (approximately two weeks later) to the mailing address provided on the application form. Please make sure you have filled in the address where you will be living at that time. Prize money will be divided evenly among team members and cheques issued to each individual member. Due to tax implications, Fanshawe College cannot issue a cheque to just one person to be divided later. The College requires each winner's social insurance number (SIN) before it can issue prize cheques.

Will participant and winner certificates be mailed out?

Participant certificates will be handed out the day of the event. Participants who are unable to get their certificates on March 21 can pick them up from the research office located in K1024 beginning Monday, April 1, 2019. The reception area office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Research and Innovation Day prize winners will be presented with a group certificate at the event. Individual certificates for each member of the winning groups will be available for pickup in Room K1024 beginning Monday, April 1, 2019.

Will my name and/or photo be taken/used?

This is a public event. A College photographer and videographer will be present and all entries/teams will be photographed. External broadcast and print news media also will be invited and may choose to cover Research and Innovation Day. By participating in the event, all entrants are deemed to have consented to having their names and images used by Fanshawe College for promotional purposes.

Whom do I contact if I have more questions?

You may contact Research and Innovation Day organizer Alex Jaworiwsky at a_jaworiwsky@fanshawec.ca if you have questions.

Good luck to all entrants!
