Frequently asked questions about the Early Childhood Education (ECE) full-time online program

How are online courses delivered?

At Fanshawe, our online courses are delivered entirely online with the exception of your field placements (further information below) which are required to be completed in-person.

Will I be required to login at specific times in order to complete this program?

There are no specific login times. Online learning is self-directed; students are expected to keep up with their studies by completing weekly readings, discussion posts, assignments and/or quizzes as outlined in each of their courses.

When does the online program start and how long is it?

The ECE online offering is available to start in September of each year only and is scheduled to be done on a continuous basis throughout the year with no breaks.

Semester 1: September to December – no field placement.

Semester 2: January to April – placement 2 days a week (22 days).

Semester 3: May to August – placement 2 days a week   (22 days).

Semester 4: September to December - placement 2 days a week (22 days).

Can I do my placement on a part-time basis?

No, unfortunately you cannot. Field placements need to be completed on a full-time basis, there are no exceptions.

Semester 1: September to December – no field placement.

Semester 2: January to April – placement 2 days a week (22 days).

Semester 3: May to August – placement 2 days a week   (22 days).

Semester 4: September to December - placement 2 days a week (22 days).

Note:

Students must complete these placement hours in the assigned semester.

Students are able to complete their placements in their home communities. This will be coordinated with our Field Placement Coordinator. You may be asked to research potential locations.

Am I required to have my First Aid, CPR, Police Record Check and all my immunizations up to date before I start the program?

All documents are required before you are eligible to do any field placements. It is advised that you start the process (First aid/CPR and Immunization) once you have been accepted. If you have further questions please contact Jillian Bourque at jbourque@fanshawec.ca, our Pre-placement Coordinator, identifying yourself as an ECE online student.

Can I work full-time and study full-time?

It is not advised that you study full-time and work full-time, although it is your choice. The full-time ECE program requires a full-time commitment. Full-time students should expect approximately 30 to 35 hours a week of course work.

Can I switch to face-to-face if I find online learning challenging?

Our programs are typically full so moving between online to face-to-face and vice versa will not be permitted. Please choose your program delivery wisely. Complete the amiready questionnaire to determine your suitability to online learning.
