Child & Youth Mental Health

Mental Health for children and teens has never been more complicated and more of a concern than it is today. Professionals, parents and caregivers often feel overwhelmed and unprepared for the struggles that children and youth are facing. This course will review mental health challenges that many children experience and the strategies to effectively manage the signs and symptoms of mental illness. This course will examine the short-term and long-term impacts of the COVID pandemic on child social, emotional and physical development as well as the impact on service delivery. Suicide risk assessment and suicide intervention skills will be discussed. Students will also explore techniques for building resiliency, increasing distress tolerance, effective advocating, self-care and providing family support.
