Bowel Health

The purpose of this segment is to describe the functions of the lower intestinal tract and identify factors that affect elimination patterns in clients. This segment explains normal and abnormal characteristics and constituents of feces, common elimination problems, and examples of nursing and PSW assessment, diagnoses, and interventions for clients. Students will be able to conduct a thorough assessment, discuss measures that promote regular defecation, and describe the essential information relating to stoma care for clients with fecal ostomies.
