End-Of-Life Care

In this course, the complex issue of end-of-life care focuses not only on the person who is dying but also on the client's family and caregivers. Topics such as attitudes towards death, personal beliefs, culture and religion, dying with dignity and assisted suicide, treatment of the body after death, death and dying rituals, grief, palliative care, the dying person's Bill of Rights, understanding the client's emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs, understanding legal aspects such as an advance directive or "DNR", signs of death, and care of the body after death are addressed and discussed.
