Police Studies Bridging - Adv

In this course, students will examine specific provincial statutes including the: Provincial Offences Act, Mental Health Act, Trespass to Property Act, and the Liquor Licence Act. In this course, students will analyse specific elements of the Criminal Code. The student will examine common offences, enforcement, powers of arrest, and search and seizure authorities. Students will examine pertinent sections of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and their impact. Students will also examine interviewing and investigative skills that are required for a successful investigation. The student will learn the rules of evidence and develop the ability to apply these rules, in the collection and presentation of evidence, in a court of law. Forensic requirements, statute law and other related issues will be emphasized.
