This program is offered in partnership with Mohawk College and the CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses to enable internationally educated nurses to meet the regulatory requirements of the College of Nurses of Ontario. The program consists of both theory and clinical components required for eligibility to write the examination for registration as an RN or RPN in the province of Ontario.

HLTH-1139 - Nursing Informatics
This course provides an introduction to computer operating system, word processing, data management, email and internet applications. Standards related to data security, privacy and confidentially are introduced, Students are also introduced to the concepts of computerized patient monitoring systems and devices, electronic medical records, Telehealth, and nursing informatics.
HLTH-1146 - Clinical Experience
This clinical practice is designed to enable students to continue as active participants in the improvement of their own clinical knowledge and skills through practice and praxis. This practice will also provide an opportunity to work with clients requiring complex care and/or health promotion in hospital or community settings. Building on previous professional practice experiences, this clinical placement further develops nursing practice skills, interprofessional, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills to promote health and healing. Pattern recognition, evidence-informed decision-making, synthesis of previously learned concepts and competencies, and increased self-directedness will be emphasized. All courses in your program must be completed prior to attending clinical placements. You will be placed on one or more supervised and preceptored affiliated clinical sites. Sites include acute and long term care facilities. Placement is individualized based on clinical availability.
HLTH-1147 - Preceptorship
Preceptorship is an opportunity to work on areas of required growth and consolidation with the guidance of a clinical mentor/supervisor. During this final experience, learners will focus on gaining proficiency in practice, developing leadership skills and aim toward independence in practice. Learners will also function as an active member of an interdisciplinary health team, integrate their nursing skills, and their sense of professional responsibility and identity. Learners work with a preceptor in a selected area of practice, learning professional responsibility and developing their own individual style of practice. At the completion of the course, the learner will meet the competencies expected of entry to practice Registered Nurses (CNO 2009a).
NRSG-1047 - Healing & Episodic Health
This course focuses on experiences with health and healing during episodic health challenges with individuals and families. Learners will discuss basic concepts of healing and illness and the impact of medical and surgical interventions. Collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, health teaching and health promotion will be emphasized as students learn about caring modalities.
NRSG-1048 - Health & Transitions
This course has a focus on normal developmental transitions across the lifespan including concepts of chronicity, loss, grief, end of life care and holistic care. Students will also examine meanings of health, family and communities along with mental health challenges and illness.
NRSG-1049 - Laboratory Practice 1
This lab course provides the opportunity to learn assessment techniques and clinical skills in a simulated setting in preparation for clinical practice. Skills taught are correlated to nursing theory. Students will learn the principles and knowledge underlying nursing techniques in order to develop safe and effective practice styles when planning and carrying out care. Collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving and relevant health teaching ill be emphasized.
NRSG-1050 - Laboratory Practice 2
This course allows students to develop dexterity and skill in more complex nursing techniques. Students will learn the principles and knowledge underlying these nursing skill in order to develop safe, effective practice when planning and carrying out the care. Collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving and relevant health teaching approaches will be emphasized.
NRSG-6028 - Nursing in Ontario
This course examines professional nursing from a broader perspective. It examines current issues challenging the health care system, policy development, trends, and the reform to the deliver of health care in Canada. Legal and ethical concepts are addressed as well as the role and influence of the registered nurse and registered practical nurse with regard to health care policy, political process, leadership and creating change in order to foster client and societal health.
PHRM-1040 - Pharmacology
This course will focus on the study of drugs and their action in the human body and related nursing practice is emphasized. Key drugs or prototypes within each drug classification are identified and studied. As well, the course will focus on essential assessment, nursing interventions, specific age-related considerations and patient education for each of these drug classifications. Exercises in critical thinking in relation to use in specific health conditions will be emphasized.
SFTY-1056 - General Health & Safety-Field Placement
Ontario Law requires all students who participatein unpaid placements in workplaces to completethe same mandatory training as paid employees.This course covers two of these mandatory topics;Workplace Hazardous Material InformationSystems/Global Harmonized System and WorkerHealth and Safety Awareness.
