Program Description

The A+ Certification Prep program prepares students in both the A+ Certification Hardware and the A+ Certification Software areas. Both of the courses required for this program are preparatory courses that would allow student to prepare for the A+Essentials certification exam.

A+ Certification Hardware introduces the student to the hardware aspect of computer systems. Student will learn how to build and troubleshoot systems, identify and describe computer components through labs, active learning and lectures.

A+ Certification Software covers installation, management and troubleshooting of Window client platforms.

This course introduces the student to the hardware aspect of computer systems. Using handson labs, active learning, and lectures, students learn how to identify and describe computer components and peripherals. Students will also learn how to build and troubleshoot systems from a hardware perspective. This course prepares students for careers in the computer support service field. Emphasis is on IBM and IBM-type personal computers (PCs). This course assists students in preparing to service PCs and related equipment and assists in preparing for the A+ Essentials certification exam. Job opportunities for those with the proper training abound in both the private and public sectors. Many positions have to be filled in the areas of manufacturing, testing, installation and maintenance not to mention before & after sales support. This course prepares students to continue their computer systems education in the CSYS 2122 course in semester 3, focusing on operating systems. A large portion of our systems graduates will find their careers directly involved in the data communications, networking industry or supporting companies in the networking area.

This course builds on the learning that takes place in CSYS 1122, Computer Systems I. Where CSYS 1122 assisted in covering the hardware portion of the CompTIA A+ certification, this course assists with covering the software portion of that certification. Specifically, topics covered include installation, management and troubleshooting of Windows client platforms. Job opportunities for those with the proper training abound in both the private and public sectors.
