Three "Best of the Best" student research projects announced by CRI for Research & Innovation Day 2021 (Virtual Edition)

CRI (The Centre for Research & Innovation at Fanshawe College) is hosting Research & Innovation Day 2021 (Virtual Edition) live online from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 26.

Research & Innovation Day 2021 is a celebration of Fanshawe's prominence as an institute that pushes the future of research and development (R&D) to drive solutions for Canada and the globe, powered by the world-class expertise of our faculty, staff and students. The event will be a morning of exciting networking opportunities, presentations of how the expertise within the CARIB food innovation industry labs has developed many successful agri-food projects, an update on our future work in sustainable buildings and automation, and stories of how CRI has helped growing businesses remove their barriers to successes through Fanshawe's leadership.

A highlight of the virtual celebration is the unveiling of the 2020-2021 Fanshawe research project on-demand virtual gallery (featuring research posters and elevator pitches about work conducted by students, faculty and staff across the college) - and live elevator pitches from the three teams selected by CRI's chair of research Colin Yates, PhD, as the "Best of the Best" projects of the year:

Fanshawe surpasses expectations (as always) in one of the most challenging years imaginable

"We deserve a positive take on the pandemic's most overused word - unprecedented - and the researchers across Fanshawe provided just that, and then some!" says Andrew Kaszowski, CRI's industry outreach and communication coordinator who is leading the research celebration's planning. "Last year's event had research project submissions wrap up two weeks before the global pandemic was declared on March 11, 2020 and we shifted to a virtual gallery of those projects right away. We received way more projects for our 2021 virtual event than last year. This happened in possibly the most challenging academic year our college has ever faced... that feels unprecedented to me! We're going to unveil at least 30 impressive projects from Fanshawe students, faculty and staff members on March 26. CRI is beyond proud of the tireless continuation of excellent research work in a trying situation, all across our institution. We are a driver of innovation in Ontario, and that puts Fanshawe on the map as a top college that is making a mark globally."

The three "Best of The Best" project leaders will showcase their research work live at 9:30 a.m. on March 26. There will also be presentations from CRI's principal investigators who have driven agri-food research projects for industry partners ranging from Booch Organic Kombucha to The Fritter Shop to name just a few. The community and funding partners that empower CRI's work will also be featured. Interactive networking rooms throughout the event will enable q&a directly with these research experts and industry partners.
