Year End Gathering Celebration 2016

Year End Gathering Celebration showcasing Indigenous talents over 3 days of celebration! On Day 1 the First Nations Centre(FNC) showcased Indigenous musicians Lacey Hill and Logan Staats in the Forwell Hallway for the Nooner Performances.

On Day 2 the FNC hosted a lacrosse workshop with students, staff and youth. Also a live podcast recording and comedy night with Ryan McMahon took place on this day.

On Day 3 the FNC hosted its 19th Annual Year End Gathering Pow Wow. The event wrapped up the 3 Daylong celebration with free food, singing and dancing. View photos and video.

This year we had an exciting line-up, including traditional teachings by Richard Assinewai (Ojibway Elder) and Ken Maracle (Cayuga Longhouse Faith keeper), and a Social (pow wow and longhouse style dancing) to follow in J-gym.

Rock your Mocs in Forwell Hall

Monday, November 10, 2014, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

"Rock your Mocs" is a day when Indigenous people are encouraged to wear their moccasins to display their pride and create positive conversation about the beauty of Indigenous culture.

Fanshawe's First Nations Centre invited all staff and students to learn about the different categories of Pow Wow and Haudenosaunee dance styles through a special "Rock your Mocs" dance demonstration!

Fanshawe student Frazer Phillips (right)  explained different dance styles and the meanings behind them.

USS wsg A Tribe Called Red

USS, Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker headline a huge show in Forwell Hall.
A Tribe Called Red was part of the show. They are an all First Nations DJ crew from Ottawa that remixes traditional Pow Wow music with contemporary club sounds. www.electricpowwow.com
