An Ombuds helps resolve concerns, complaints or conflicts in an impartial, confidential and informal way. Fanshawe's Ombuds deals with issues related to student interactions with the College, Fanshawe Student Union or Regional Campus Student Councils. The Ombuds is available to all members of the College community.

Assistance will be provided by:

  • listening and helping analyze student related matters
  • identifying relevant policies, practices, and procedures
  • brainstorming and assessing options
  • helping resolve problems in a respectful manner
  • preparing students for academic and other appeals
  • helping with communication with faculty, staff, students, or others
  • explaining how to pursue a service complaint
  • helping with communication with faculty, staff, students, or others
  • explaining how to pursue a service complaint

The Ombuds may:

  • investigate a problem, complaint, or concern
  • mediate or facilitate conversations
  • begin discussions with other people or departments
  • make referrals to campus and community resources

Principles:

Independent
The office operates independently of the usual administrative authorities.

Confidential
All communication will be treated as condential.

Impartial
The Ombuds will remain as an unbiased, neutral third party.
