JumpStart Writing Workshops

Register online for any of our workshops designed to help students prepare for college writing.

Session 1: College Writing Expectations

Would you like to learn more about writing expectations in College? Come to this session to learn more about the types of writing you might be asked to do. Also, this session will explain the reasons why we cite information in our writing. Finally, it will offer some tips for academic writing in general.

Session 2: Tips and Tools for Starting Assignments

This session will explore how to approach assignments and the writing process for a variety of written responses, such as short answers, essays, and reports. We will review rubrics and basic essay structure.

Session 3: How to Avoid Common Writing Errors

This session reviews common writing errors and provides students with activities to practice afterwards. Some areas of review include comma splices, sentence fragments, word choice and apostrophe use.

Session 4: Introduction to APA 7

Many programs at Fanshawe use APA style citation format. This session will introduce APA style and help students feel prepared to incorporate sources into their assignments.

JumpStart Active Learning and Study Skills Strategies

It is common for many college students to experience difficulties adjusting to the academic demands of being a student and Fanshawe College is committed to supporting your success! Sometimes study techniques previously utilized may not be as effective given the amount of course content and time constraints found in most college courses.

Workshop topics will include the following:

  • Time Management Strategies;
  • How to Effectively Read a Text Book;
  • Listening and Note-Taking;
  • Multiple Choice Test Taking Tips.
