Did you know…

…that prospective students can apply for assessment of prior learning even before they apply to Fanshawe?

…that students can receive credit for up to 75% of a college program through PLAR? (Degree students can receive up to 50%)

… that transcripts do not distinguish between credits earned through PLAR and credits earned through post-secondary courses?

With increasing numbers of mature students in our classrooms, Fanshawe has a responsibility to assess and recognize learning appropriate for the credential that has occurred outside of a post-secondary institution. As the faculty member (and subject matter expert), you may be tasked with developing the most appropriate assessment tool for your course. Evidence of prior learning achievement in your course could be demonstrated by:

  • Challenge Evaluation
  • Portfolio

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) SharePoint Site

  • PLAR resources and templates for faculty

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Website

  • Starting point for students exploring PLAR

Fanshawe Academic Policy A124

  • official College position on PLAR, along with the guidelines for implementation

Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA)

  • national organization on prior learning assessment within educational and workplace settings
