Why Go Abroad?

Cultural differences extend beyond food, appearance, and language. Going abroad gives you the opportunity to delve into a culture's perceptions, beliefs, and values-- ultimately increasing your level of cultural competence.

There is a growing need in the workplace for individuals who are able to live and work in an intercultural environment and who can speak a second language. What better way to set yourself apart from the competition than by showing future employers how globally-minded you are!

What Options are Available?

Fanshawe College offers a number of options for going abroad.

Semester-Long Exchanges - Fanshawe College is proud to have partnerships with many prestigious schools around the world. These partnerships allow Fanshawe students to study abroad while paying their regular domestic tuition fees to Fanshawe College. In most cases, academic credits will be transferred back to Fanshawe College upon completion of the semester abroad. Opportunities currently exist in Belgium, Finland, France, Ireland, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Wales but are expanding each year to include more and more study destinations.

Short-Term Cultural Exchanges - Fanshawe College has been sending students to Japan on a cultural exchange for many years. Each May, two students travel to Ibaraki Christian University to experience life in Japan for four weeks. Students take basic Japanese language classes, communications courses, and spend time helping to teach English in a Japanese pre-school. They also have the ability to travel around the countryside and visit the big city of Tokyo!

International Field Placement - Fanshawe College encourages its students to seek field placement or co-op opportunities outside of Canada. You will not find a better way to gain work experience and international experience at the same time! Opportunities currently exist all over the world through our association with a number of international placement agencies.

Articulation Agreements - For many students, Fanshawe College is just the beginning of their post-secondary education. Graduates can pursue degree options at universities in Canada, but also in the United States, Australia, Wales, and Ireland.

Orientation

A pre-departure orientation session will be held to assist students with their visa and scholarship applications, as well as to discuss important issues like accommodation, health insurance, and what to do in the case of an emergency.
