Summer College is a free program open to first time Fanshawe College FNMI Indigenous students starting a program in September 2024. This five-week program provides the opportunity to experience Fanshawe, meet staff, faculty and other students just like you.
Registration for Summer 2024 Summer College will open May 3 and close on June 25 (or once the program has filled). The registration link will be posted on this page once registration has opened.
Why Attend Summer College?
Lighten your first term course load, get familiar with the campus and get to know staff and students so you feel at home once you start in September. We are here for you.
Plus, students who are registered at Fanshawe for fall 2024 will be awarded with a $500 bursary after successfully completing Summer College. And, this year's Summer College cohort will be attending Rock the Park, London's biggest music festival!
Who Can Attend?
This program is open to first time Fanshawe College Indigenous students who are planning to attend post-secondary in fall 2024.
- Priority will be given to students who have accepted an offer to Fanshawe college
- Note: Students who have self-identified as Indigenous through the Institute of Indigenous Learning or their Ontario Colleges application will be sent an invitation to register using the email associated with their account
Program Specifics
This five-week program will take place from July 10 - August 18, 2024.
Program Snapshot!
Week 1: Join us on campus! You will stay at our London campus in residence and get acquainted with the college’s facilities, staff and faculty while meeting other students.
Weeks 2-4: Study online at your own pace in the general elective of your choice!
Week 5: Stay on campus with us again! You will continue your coursework, collaborate with peers, and engage in stimulating discussions, fostering relationship-building and a sense of community.

Course Options
You will choose your preferred course path for your Summer College experience. Here are this year's course options:
Option 1 - All My Relations (General Elective): First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) realities in Canada are incredibly diverse, complex, and perhaps intimidating. Part of understanding colonization and reconciliation means learning about and applying Indigenous ways of seeing the world. This course seeks to move the learner through 1) self-reflection; 2) learning about FNMI realities from FNMI peoples; into 3) respectful engagement, all through the application of FNMI concepts. The teachings of “all my relations,” truth, Indigenous leadership principles, community design, and reciprocity ground the topics of this course in Indigenous theory and practice.
Option 2 - Gikendan (General Elective): This course is designed to explore and apply principles of empathetic design and Indigenous frameworks in the context of community leadership, innovation and development. It focuses on understanding and integrating cultural perspectives, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions to address real-world challenges. Students will engage in hands-on projects, collaborative teamwork, and critical analysis, culminating in the development of practical solutions that reflect a deep understanding of empathetic and Indigenous approaches.
